Recently I read an article about this gentleman who takes people on safaris around Kilimanjaro, Africa. The whole reason for this safari is to find yourself. Now, while going to Africa would be fun. I just don't see why I need to travel 7,000-8,000 miles to find myself.
First of all is cost:
- Round trip air fair would be about $3,000.00 US
- Suitcase and new clothes and shoes for the trip (come on, you'd have to! Who has a safari outfit in their closet right now!). Around $500.00? $1,000? Let's just say $750.00.
- Couldn't find the cost of the "Inventure", but I do know this dude gets $10,001.00-$20,000.00 for a speaking engagement, so I think I'll say half of the lowest speaking price: $5,000.50. It's most likely more, but if I find the truth I'll change it.
- Souvenirs once you get there for family and self including at least one of those gorgeous maxi rainbow colored dresses with matching head scarf that I don't know the real name to: $600.00?
- Miscellaneous: $500.50 (to even out the change).
Our total for one person is $9851.00. Might as well say an even $10,000.00! I don't have this kind of money just like most of the 99% of people.
This guy would say: "But you get to see wild animals!"
This leads to my second point:
If I want to see wild animals all I need to do is visit my son's grade school and eat lunch with him. Have you ever seen a herd of third graders eat spaghetti with their faces?
"It's the last great wilderness!"
Third point:
I'm lucky. From where I live in Missouri I can drive in just about any direction and find a man made lake or state park (more than one named "Mark Twain" for some reason). I can get to any of them in and hour or two. But is wilderness necessary? Honestly I don't think so. If you need to get out of your daily environment go to a park with a loaf of bread and sit down and feed the geese, or just put on some calming music, close your eyes and let the music carry you away to any place you want to travel inside your brain.
Do you need wilderness to find yourself? Just look in the mirror. Oh! There I am!
"You get to meet Elders at villages and sit around a campfire!"
Fourth:
WE are now the Elders even if we don't like the idea. Think of the knowledge you have gained through you're life and remind yourself just how amazing you are! You've been through a lot of hard times and came out of it alive. Congratulations! Celebrate the fact. No travel needed.
